So before we get into ghosts again let me say, I really enjoy all of the comments that have been popping up on a variety of posts for the past few days. I have tried to answer them all. If I have missed one please do not be offended. They are popping up on past posts as far back as December of 2012, so I have to scroll through and try and find them.
We have discussed poltergeists and angry ghosts, the ones that are most commonly caught on tape. But what about the ones that seem to be attached to an object and not a person or a place?
Once long ago when I was very young, my sister, the one that was at home for the first few years of my life, told me that sometimes people leave pieces of their essence behind when they leave a place. Those pieces are often mistaken for ghosts because they are so intense and reactive. Mind you, I was a child and so was she. But Lila has always had a way with the other side so to speak. In this instance, as in others concerning the occult, I believe that she is right.
When a person has a traumatic event, not a scare or an emotional breakdown, but a real traumatic event then it is possible for them to imprint upon an object. That object can be anything including a house. But that does not mean that they haunt the object or the house after death. Only the imprint, the thought or the feeling of the trauma is imprinted, sometimes with an image and that is all. The person is not there. Let me give you an example, recently I have been watching a show called the Haunted Collector. Now I don't know if this guy is for real. I would have to see his museum to determine if he is the real deal. But he puts on a good show. So when I relate to you this story remember please that I am not endorsing the show as real or even the episode as real, only that it makes a good example for what I am saying here.
Okay... an old brothel was having ghost problems. A woman was often seen on the stairs or sitting on the balcony. A specific room always felt "occupied" and sometimes the bed shook or crying could be heard. So this guy and his crew go in and investigate. What they find is simple. One of the prostitutes had fallen in love with a miner. The miner promised to take her away from the life. He was killed suddenly. She had a traumatic event and then drank too much laudanum and died. The bottle from which she drank the final dose along with all of her belongings were still in the room, over a hundred years later. When the crew did a session where they ask questions and record any response that they might or might not be able to hear without the recording a single word came out of the empty room. She said "wait". The prostitute had imprinted on the bottle. The single item that released her from her torment. The imprint had left her final thought and her despair along with an image of her waiting.
Now this story may be true or not. The evidence that they presented for television looked and sounded good. But it's television so anything goes. Regardless this is the perfect example of what I am talking about. A person can imprint upon an object. They do not however need to die to make an imprint. The prostitute was not haunting the brothel. She had not been murdered or treated unfairly (I know that is a subjective comment, but remember where I live and where I grew up. Prostitution is and has been a part of my learning since I can remember. I understand the profession. That is not to say that I approve of forced prostitution. That is an entirely different subject.) Back to the regularly scheduled program... The prostitute simply left a piece of herself behind on the bottle and it was mistaken for a haunting.
Once again we see the power of the human mind. It is amazing how much it can do without us being aware. Imagine if we actually could use more than the few bits that we use.
In my stories of Calisto Gabrielle Casey, my Veteran of the Silent War, I liberally use ghosts and Angels to help her. At first it's only her mother, who was chosen for Angel duty. Later I employ ghosts of every kind. During this process I explain the nature of ghosts through Cali's eyes. In her world for example, children generally simply move on after death if their death is normal, but it they die traumatically then their little ghosts hang out above their graves (or dump sites) not knowing what is going on. As children they do not communicate well anyway, but now as ghost children they are severely handicapped in that area. Cali has a special affinity towards them, for obvious reasons and has found ways to communicate with them so that they can move on. Her ability to help them move on is part of how she helps to bring light to the darkness. She cannot be everywhere a child is being abused and she cant liberate every ghost but she does what she can in both worlds.
In the mean time she runs into angry ghosts, ghosts with agendas, ghosts that have been earthbound so long that they are completely lost, and ghosts that just seem lost. She tries to help all of them and succeeds quite often. The ghost are also bound by the Angel of her mother to help her if they can. It is a trade off that Cali did not understand until a ghost refused to help her. He chose to take the wrath of the Angel instead of help her. It was a huge risk, but because it was such a risk it drove home the importance of what he was trying to convey to her. It turns out that she must confront the ghost of her father, the man that abused her the most, and she must find a way to help him move on.
In the real world is there someone like Cali? I have no idea but I do believe that there are lots of kinds of ghosts and they cannot touch our world in any significant way. We can catch them on tape and they can turn on lights and move cups and minor stuff like that, but without a great deal of energy and concentration they have no real power to harm us (remember that ghosts no longer have a mind with which to concentrate). It is the other stuff that goes bump in the night that masquerades as ghosts that can and do hurt us. Yep, we've come back to the Devil Spirit stuff again... but let's save that for tomorrow.
Try not to have any nightmares. Live well and be good to each other.
